Honouring Truth and Reconciliation: A Conversation with Darci Everson of EverBead

Last Thursday, the Cashco team had the privilege of welcoming Darci Everson as part of our Truth and Reconciliation programming. Darci is an accomplished educator, psychologist, and artist from Lac Seul First Nation, born and raised in Kenora, Ontario, and now living in Thunder Bay with her family.

Art as Therapy and a Path to Wellness

Darci shared her personal journey as an Indigenous woman in Canada and the healing power she’s found in traditional beadwork. With degrees in Education and Psychology, she combines her academic background with cultural practice to highlight how art can be a form of therapy.

What began as a creative outlet soon became a calling. In 2018, after years of beading on the side, Darci launched EverBead, a bead-supply company whose name reflects the idea that beadwork is forever—ever good and ever deadly. Through EverBead, she creates beading kits and resources to make this art form accessible to anyone who wants to learn, emphasizing that “beading is medicine.”

Connecting Truth, Reconciliation, and Community

Truth and Reconciliation asks each of us to listen, learn, and act. By sharing her story, Darci invites us to understand the resilience and creativity of Indigenous communities while also recognizing the ongoing impact of colonial history. Her work reminds us that reconciliation is not only about reflection but also about supporting Indigenous voices, businesses, and cultural traditions.
